| WHERE IS IT AVAILABLE? |
Currently only in the mobile section of Spring Creek. If you can see the mobile section, you may be able to connect with a Rootenna. We have a customer 3.2 miles from the nearest access point, using a Rootenna. We have another customer using a more powerful rootenna who is 8.5 miles from the nearest access point.

| WHAT DO I NEED TO BUY? |
You will need a WiFi device for your PC or laptop conforming to the 802.11b or 802.11g standard (anything labeled "WiFi" does).
Different Wifi devices have different signal strengths. The farther you are from a hotspot, or the more obstacles between you and a hotspot, the stronger a device you'll need. WiFi is a line-of-sight technology. Walls, blinds, curtains, and leaves can all degrade or block the signal.

| IS IT HARD TO INSTALL? |
Typically, it's very easy. You insert a CD in your computer, install drivers, and then plug a WiFi device into a USB port. Then you position the device where it gets the best signal.
In poor-signal situations or where super solid performance is required, we recommend and can assist with outdoor, permanent installation of a "Rootenna," which houses a wireless bridge. This, in turn, is connected to your indoor computer or router via an ethernet cable. Mounting and routing cable in this instance is more involved. We're happy to advise and assist. |
| WILL IT WORK WITH MY LAPTOP'S BUILT-IN WIFI? |
Built-in WiFi devices are typically weak -- intended for connections inside buildings (e.g. Starbucks coffee houses). If you're very close to one of our hotspots, your laptop may work just fine on its own.
If your built-in device proves inadequate, an external radio connected by USB cable is a great deal stronger, and it can be positioned in a window sill where the signal is best. You can also travel with it to improve your access in other situations. |
| HOW SAFE IS IT? |
Our wireless infrastructure is encrypted end-to-end. Your connection with us is at least as secure as any other method of connecting to the Internet.
The danger you hear about with regard to WiFi has to do with wireless networking among multiple computers inside your own home, by means of your own wireless router. If your router has not been configured properly, others can indeed access your home network. This is a separate issue from your connection to the Internet, one we can help you address.

| HOW FAST IS IT? |
Typical speeds are 300-500 Mbps (6 to 10 times the fastest dial-up and equivalent to DSL), sometimes more. Speed depends on how close you are to a hotspot, the equipment you use and how it's pointed, and the health of your own computer. Also throughput can vary, depending on the time of day and the traffic situation.
Also, the connection is full-time. There is no necessitiy of logging in. |
| DO I NEED A PHONE LINE? |
No, this technology has nothing to do with phone lines or cell phone access. You connect through the air to one of our hotspots.
Note: Our own uplink to the Internet is indeed hardwired so as to avoid latency created by satellite links. But you won't need telephone service at all to connect to the Internet.

| HOW RELIABLE IS IT? |
Weather can have a small impact on your signal. Heavy rain and pogonip can tone down throughput slightly, and intense lightning is occasionally disruptive. All in all, these effects have been minimal. If you do have a phone line, we provide a backup dial-up connection to the Internet.
In any case, if you're not satisfied with your connection after 30 days, we'll issue a 100% refund of your expense.*
*Note: Returned equipment must be in original condition, with packaging.

| WHAT IF I HAVE MORE THAN ONE COMPUTER? |
Each additional computer can be connected to the Internet for only $5.00/month. You can configure a home network for simultaneous access of all your computers, or you can connect each separately. We'd be glad to advise you about the options.

Really. Billing for service is $24.95/month for a single computer. Period. You may terminate your account with us at any time without penalty.
